My diagnosis and story

It all started at the end of May. I had recently had an operation and was at home for 2 weeks. When I went back to school I noticed my vision had gone all blurry, my long distance vision, it was like this for a while. I headed to the optometrist and ended up getting 2 pairs of glasses. I had started to lose my appetite, I couldnt eat breakfast  and I was only eating half my meals.

One Saturday morning I was so tired and lethargic, I couldn't eat breakfast. I broke into tears. I went straight to the doctor and got a blood test. I was always thirsty and having to go to the toilet and I had lost 12 kg in a month!!
I got a call from the doc telling me to come in. I was then sent to the hospital and had finger pricks - my blood sugar level was 21.7 mmol!! When it should be between 4 and 8! They did insulin injections which hurt. I got them in my stomach and I still do them in my stomach 4 times a day.

I didn't really know how to feel at the time. The week I was in hospital I only cried once. But now, November, I have been really down about diabetes, but i couldnt really explain why. No one at school in my friend circle really know what im going through. I haven't really told anyone how I'm feeling other than at home.

Last week I went on an Outdoor Education camp, which required us to carry everything for 4 days!! That means clothes, food, essentials, tent and sleeping bag! Everyone was very proud of me for going :)

I'm going to clinics every 3 months for check ups and recently got a job :)
