My Neglect

I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 in 1998 and for the first 2 years I did everything that I should to manage this disease.

Because it is a silent disease and gave no pain or no obvious syptoms I tended to become very complacent about it although I have never ceased to take my medication and have blood tests regularly.

I found for a while everything seem to be reasonably controlled.

I stopped checking my blood sugar levels and from there I didn't really look after it all.

I recently had a wake up call when I got my results back from the path lab. I am now attending a diabetes management clinic locally to where I live and I realise fortunately, that you cannot ignore this disease.

I am now doing everything possible to get this disease under control and I will never ever neglect it agin. I was very very foolish and I hope anybody, who like me thinks that they can ignore it, I'm here to tell you, you most definitely cannot.

I hope now that I can live a very full and happy life knowing that I am taking responsibility for the diabetes and not burying my head in the sand hoping that it will go away.
