Moderation in all things!

One thing you will learn very quickly is moderation. You learn what you can have and what you can't have, (and it's always the damn things you love the most!), your body will let you know very quickly when you slip up. Some you can have but you must understand to be very careful, how much and HOW OFTEN!!

Don't ever think that you can cheat and no one will know. Stick to the diet but plan the occasional extras to ease the burden. Allow yourself a treat every now and then but remember...if you forget - diabetes will remember!

Editor's note

Just to highlight the point that moderation in all things is a great thing to remember for all people, diabetes or not. I agree also that it is important to learn how your body reacts to things.

I do not advocate the use of the word "cheat" though! It implies that people with diabetes are living their life for someone other than themselves and that if they choose to do something that goes against the "should's" of diabetes, they are cheating!

I think we are just human beings living with a difficult disease and we make the best choices we can at the time - no cheating in my view! An interesting topic for us to ponder - thanks for the story and food for thought
