We are excited to launch a new initiative "Dine In For Diabetes!"®
Invite your friends, and enjoy a home cooked meal any time this February 2012 – get healthier, have fun and help a great cause.
Donate the money you would have spent on a takeaway meal to Diabetes Counselling Online and encourage your friends to join you.
We are very excited to announce that Ambassador Dr Rosemary Stanton is supporting the event.
Dr Rosemary Stanton is one of Australia’s best known nutritionists. She is the author of many scientific papers and books on food and nutrition, as well as over 3,500 articles for newspapers and magazines. Rosemary has been a familiar face on television, an ABC regular and as a presenter on Burkes Backyard for 10 years. She was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her services to community health. Rosemary wants us all to think more about our food - where it comes from, how to grow or prepare it, how it affects our health and how our choices impinge on climate change. Above all, she wants us to enjoy our food, and where possible, to share that joy with others. Her latest book is The Choice Guide to Food - how to look after your health, your budget and the planet.
In February 2012, we invite you to Dine In, Don't Takeaway, For Diabetes
Diabetes Counselling Online (DCO) is a registered charity that provides free online counselling to people living with diabetes, their family and friends. DCO is holding a fundraiser called ‘Dine In For Diabetes’ which encourages you to give up takeaway meals in the month of February 2012 and instead cook quick and healthier versions of your favourite fast foods at home! You can save money and get healthier at the same time. We have included costings below in the "Saving Money" Fact Sheet, to show you comparisons of popular take away meals compared to preparing a smiliar meal at home.
How to get involved?
There are a number of ways that you and your friends can get involved with Dine In For Diabetes.
- Give up takeaway meals during the month of February 2012 and donate the money saved to Diabetes Counselling Online via our Give Now campaign here or donate via our own donations page here
- Give up takeaway meals during the month of February and also seek sponsorship from friends and family for your efforts - donating the money in the same ways as above
- Invite friends and family and host a 'Dine In For Diabetes' event in February. Invite them over for a dinner party, or have a hearty barbeque at your local park. All guests make a small donation on the day of the event to DCO
